Formerly the reception of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs (MAD), Passage du 107 now serves to connect one of Paris’ most iconic streets to the Carrousel Garden. While most of the passages around Paris have a commercial purpose, Passage du 107’s vocation is cultural: traversing the MAD, it recounts, through animations projected on to the walls, the history of design, now accessible to everyone. The animations projected in the shop and restaurant have an educational purpose in connection with the programme of exhibitions in the museum. Deliberately clashing with the traditional architecture of the Palais du Louvre, the museum’s iconic colour red is used in the passage, on Rue de Rivoli and in the garden, proclaiming the museum’s presence to the whole city.
