Focusing on the social dimension of architecture and direct involvement by users, I met residents of Parisian urban districts to see how they have individually developed their homes. Seeking solutions to organise space in contrast to standardised, formerly collective housing, led me to discover incremental architecture, in the hope of adapting a model first seen in Chile. “Self-incremental” architecture, which combines incrementalisation with participation in self-builds, gives you an adaptable apartment in a pre-defined setting that is above all customisable by the occupant, the end user.
