The church is at the heart of society, in the centre of the village and its land. However, with the decline in religious practices in France, some churches are losing their original role. The Church must therefore let go of some of its buildings. My dissertation is based on the study of three reconversion projects, all with different outcomes. By studying the “Church Plan” in Quebec, we will look at the different possibilities for renovating French churches. Would a complete or partial reconversion help to bring the church back to the heart of the village? Is it possible to think about the church not as an exclusively religious symbol, but as a symbol of the local community?
