The industrial era and the multiple technological developments we are experiencing are profoundly changing our relationship to objects. Although most designers are preoccupied with the functional, utilitarian character of their work, the question of meaning and the symbolism of objects is considered less and less. All objects have their functions and are limited to what they have to do. Although there are strategies for restoring meaning to objects, do they really have a chance of surviving in a society focused on functionality and efficiency?
